SYNOPSIS

A secret is something that can consume us, it burns us up, and makes us as lonely as its possible to be –totally isolated because we can’t tell anyone about the thing that is most important to us, that moves us and makes us suffer. How can we describe a secret in words or images, a thing that, by definition, we can’t talk about? The answer is straight forward: through metaphors. A secret is a red fire and ‘Whoever we are, we all have secrets’. Prita has them, and so do her children Kelti and little Kup, the characters at the heart of this picture book—a book that tries to do the impossible job of keeping us company while keeping our secrets. In this story, the reader will find loneliness, misunderstanding, attempts at confession, and finally, a little something to dampen the flames—some relief.
