For over 28 years, Lawrence Schimel has worked as a literary translator, primarily between Spanish and English. He is also an award-winning writer (in Spanish and English) and anthologist, with more than 120 books published in diverse genres. His own children's books have won a Crystal Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers & illustrators, and have been chosen by IBBY for Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities (three times) and by the International Youth Library in Munich for the White Ravens list. His own books have been translated into over 40 languages, including Romansch, Welsh, and Luxembourgish. He has given lectures, workshops, and readings at London Book Fair, Frankfurt Bookfair, SOAS, Yale University, Brown University, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Wayne State University, St. Louis University in Madrid, the Universidad de Cádiz, etc. and also regularly takes part in literary festivals.
