Verdun, 1916. When the Great War breaks out, Irene Curie wants to be as close to the front as possible. Convinced that she will help save many lives, she sets out to teach radiology to surgeons in field hospitals using portable devices devised by herself and her mother, Marie Curie. Her stay at Barleduc hospital will see her struggling to gain the respect of the military, the doctors and her colleagues. When the Germans bomb Verdun, there begins a race against time to save lives. Together with the nurse Berthe, and the volunteer Shirley, she will face the hell that was the bloodiest and longest battle of the war. And they will not only fight for their own survival.
