Zahra's marriage has been arranged. She is not marrying for love. She is not in love. She hardly even knows her cousin, Amir, the spoiled scion of a family with excessive ambitions. And there she is, sitting at one end of a couch covered on voluminous recycled polyester cushions, looking away, gazing at the warm garlands that like fairy lights illuminate the living room of this enormous building in Gujranwala, the Pakistani city of her birth. Zahra, who has lived in Barcelona since 2006, believes that arranged marriages are not part and parcel of Pakistani culture. Zahra's Baby pays tribute to the Pakistani sisters Anisa and Arooj Abbas, who resided in Terrassa, Catalonia, and were murdered in May 2022.
