Zel hides her list of forbidden wishes in a drawer, out of her mother’s sight. She is turning eighteen, and hopes that her mother will finally let her go out into the world so she can run cross country, see the ocean, and smile at some stranger. But that does not happen until an outlaw sneaks into her room and gives her the perfect opportunity to run away. Despite the excruciating fear that fills her chest to burst, she allows this lanky, sarcastic boy to take her to her city where she experiences three times the excitement she ever imagined while locked in her room. She learns a lot about herself thanks to Jack and Flyn, a pair of safecrackers who drive her crazy, but who also make her question everything she thinks she knows.
