The Spanish publishing industry had a turn over of 3000 million euros in 2016, of which more than 570 correspond to exports. Sales of rights in international markets are estimated to be greater than one hundred million euros. The number of titles published has been 81,500, 1.5% more than in 2015 and there are 1,500 publishing companies in Spain. The main destination of Spanish exports is the European Union, followed very closely by Latin America. France and Mexico are the main buyers of Spanish books.
Spain´s Ministry of Culture is keen to support the translation into other languages of works written in Spanish, Catalan, Basque and Galician. Grants are awarded annually and the call for applications for the 2018 scheme is now open and will close on 17th May.
