María Barbal

Maria Barbal (Tremp, 1949) errupted onto the literary scene with "Pedra de Tartera" (Stone in a Landslide) which won the Joaquim Ruyra Prize in 1984 and the Joan Crexells Prize in 1985 becoming a landmark in contemporary Catalan fiction. Her later novels include "Mel i Metzines" (Honey and Poison 1990) and "Càmfora" (Camphor 1992), winner of the Critics' Prize for Catalan Literature and the National Prize for Catalan Literature. She has written short story collections and numerous other novels among which the most well-known are "En la Piel de Otro" (In Someone else's skin: Destino 2014) and "A mi Amigo Escocés" (To my Scottish Friend: Destino 2019) that have been translated into Spanish as well as several other languages. In 2021 she won the Josep Pla Prize for her novel "Tàndem" and the Prize of Honour for Catalan Literature in recognition of her life's work.
