Madness is not a good travel companion when your job is murder. A professional assassin abandons the organisation he has worked for many years. He flees far away to hide in The Heart of Midnight, a hostel enclosed by a circular wall where half a dozen guests live, each stranger than the last. The deserter spends his nights obsessed with the thought that the organisation has sent someone to kill him. He is convinced that his executioner is staying at the Heart, just waiting for the perfect time to end his life.
